Fictional Character Who Studied Abroad #30:
Giovanna Screti, Sweet Valley Twins

Book #60 - Ciao, Sweet Valley!:

“I’m beginning to wonder just how different Giovanna is going to be. After all, she comes from a foreign country, and she speaks a foreign language. Her clothes will be different, her hair, the way she thinks, the way she talks.”

“But that’s the whole reason for inviting a foreign student to stay with us,” Elizabeth reminded her. “Giovanna will be different. We can learn a lot from her, and she’ll learn a lot from us, too.”

“We were all sick of hearing about Italy this, Italy that. And about all the great things you get to do in Italy - drinking coffee and wine, riding scooters. Here you are in America, and there isn’t one thing you like about it.”

Giovanna shook her head. “About America,” she said, “I like very tall buildings and loud rock music and basketball. I like old blue jeans and hot dogs with mustard and soap operas on television and skateboards at the beach. And I like the Wakefield family and this nice house.”
