People Who Studied Abroad #123:Paul Robeson, actor, singer, athlete and activist From: United States Studied: Robeson performed in the United Kingdom from the late 1920s to 1939. While living in that country, he also enrolled in classes in phonetics and Swahili at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London (and independently studied Igbo, Yoruba, Zulu, Chinese, Russian and Hindi). One of the residence halls at SOAS was named Paul Robeson House in his honor.
