People Who Studied Abroad #370:
Nicolaus Copernicus, astronomer
Kingdom of Poland
He spent four years studying mathematics, astronomy, philosophy and natural science at the University of Krakow (now Jagiellonian University), but left before completing a degree and went to study law in Bologna, Italy between fall 1496 and spring 1501. Although he was ostensibly a law student, his studies mostly consisted of humanities and astronomy. In the fall of 1501, he began studying medicine at the University of Padua (once again mixed with astronomy and other subjects), and in spring 1503 he was granted the degree of doctor of canon law.
