She attended a boarding school in Cannstatt, Germany and took courses in chemistry and the natural sciences in Lausanne, Switzerland. She received her M.D. from the University of Paris (France) in 1887 and was the first female intern to work in a hospital in Paris. She made many advancements in neurology and especially the study of nerve damage.
